“Promise me you’ll always remember: You’re braver than you believe, and stronger than you seem, and smarter than you think.”
- Christopher Robin to Pooh – A.A. Milne
It is said that “when the going gets tough, the tough get going.” My way of “getting going” was to write.
The result was a book, and then another. Soon I was writing articles for magazines, chronicling the sometimes difficult, often humorous, and sometimes poignant moments of daily life.
To date, I have published five books and a variety of articles which have appeared in over 100 magazines nationwide.
I have experienced a number of challenges in my life, including miscarriage, my daughter’s mental health issues, my son’s addiction, and my mom’s life – altering illness. Writing about these issues has been a source of strength and resilience for me and, I am so pleased to say, a beacon of hope for my readers.
Out of this new life as a writer, people began to ask me to talk about my books and experiences, leading to another chapter of my life as a speaker. I love to speak to groups about ways I have discovered to navigate this world with courage, humor, and honesty.
Through my writing and my speaking presentations I provide a genuine voice as I speak and listen to those experiencing life’s deepest challenges.
When I am not writing, I am reading, usually with my cat curled up on my lap, and my dog beside me. I love my line dancing class, which I attend at least once a week. Of course, I love spending time with my family. One of our favorite activities is camping in the summer. My husband, John, and I are members of the Minnesota State Parks and Trails Passport Club. I am proud to say we have nearly accomplished our goal of visiting all of Minnesota’s 72 state parks.
