Finding Joy in the time of COVID: Taming the Cords

I can’t explain my fanatical love of organization. I love to organize my time (calendar), my activities (the to-do list), and my space.

So, I have been reading a lot lately about how this stay-at-home mandate has impelled people to finally clean out their closets. Pfft…as if. My closets have been organized for years. One thing that is not organized? Cords. Like most households, we have cords everywhere. Every drawer, every basket. But when it comes time to finding a cord to charge our phones, we can never seem to find one. So, last night I sat down with my husband, John, and a pile, a large pile, of cords which I had collected and dumped on our kitchen table. I needed John’s help to figure out which cord went to which device. Turns out we had a sizable pile of cords that fit obsolete phones, and a good number which we could not even identify. We put all of them in a recycle box. Then I grouped, labeled, and organized the remaining cords. It is a thing of beauty.

John said, “Oh, you are really happy now.” And I am. It gives me such peace. Ridiculous, I know, but there you have it. What a delight to open my one drawer and find the cord I need.
