Isn’t the Internet just the most amazing darn thing? I mean, whoever would have predicted we could do church while sitting on the couch in our pajamas?
My church, like so many others, has used this amazing technology to broadcast church on our laptops.
The pastors preach, we all pray together, and then the organist plays the hymn. My husband, John, and I sing along. And here is a funny thing: when you are singing, just the two of you, you find out just how good, or actually, how not good you are at carrying a tune. Surrounded by a whole congregation of singers, I think John and I do a fine job. But when it is just the two of us, it gets, well, a little difficult. This past Sunday, it got to the point where John said, “I think I’ll just listen”. Which of course meant just listening to me, which, much to my surprise, is pretty close to dreadful.
No matter. It was just such an amazing experience to be sitting on the couch with John, singing hymns. As we were singing “What Wondrous Love is This”, I noticed we both we singing with unabashed enthusiasm. It is a great song. Afterwards, I told John that I had chosen that song to be sung at my funeral. He said, “Yes, sing that at my funeral too.”
So, today’s delight is many faceted. Our church. Being able to worship with others via the internet. And, best of all, sitting on the couch with my husband singing hymns.
