Finding JOY: A good book

Amor Towles owes me - just a small check would suffice, since I am one of his greatest champions. I loved his new book, “The Lincoln Highway”, I mean I LOVED it, and I tell everyone I know that they simply must read it.

I really like reading – fiction or memoir and an occasional true crime, and there is nothing I like more than having a book I can hardly wait to get home to. Such was the case with this book. Perhaps you know the feeling – not wanting to finish the book because then it will be over. An odd feeling if ever there was one.

I loved Amor’s previous book, “A Gentleman in Moscow”, so I was excited to read this latest book. I was put off by the length … I am loathe to start a long book, I have no idea why. But start it I did, and I could not put it down.

I want others to experience the joy of a good book, and so I share my recommendations with friends and family frequently and with great enthusiasm, as in “This is the best book I have ever read”, which at the time, feels so true.

I get most of my books from the library. If I happen to purchase one, and it is good, I make sure to deposit it in a neighborhood “Little Free Library”. I would now like to express my opinion on these libraries. Bless the people who put these things up in their yards. And curse the people who put junk in there. If you loved a book and want to share it, put it in the library. If it is junk that you just cleared out from an ancient bookshelf, recycle it! We are meant to share good books, books that gave us joy!

This week’s JOY: A good book. And the opportunity to share the joy of a new book with others.

Note: if you want recommendations for good books, check out my friend, Nancy Agneberg’s website: Living on Life’s Labryrinth. This woman reads – a lot, and shares her recommendations frequently.
