Finding JOY: a summer birthday

I love summer, and lucky me, I was born on June 23rd, three days after the official first day of that glorious season! What JOY – every year I get to celebrate my best of days during the best season of the year.

So, a recap of my best day: First, sitting out on the back deck with my husband, a cup of coffee and a newspaper nearby. Then a game of pickleball, during which the morning sun nearly baked us alive – no worry, we just followed it with a dip in the pool! Lunch on the patio was followed by a bike ride to see the impressive Sioux Falls (the actual falls). Then home for more pool time with our kids and the World’s Cutest Grandson. This followed by an outdoor barbeque and… wait for it, a birthday cake from Costco (if you haven’t tried it yet, it’s worth the price of a membership). The day was topped off by an outdoor concert near the shores of Covell Lake by the Sioux Falls Municipal Band. The theme: “Fiesta”, the highlight of which was a medley of tunes from “West Side Story” … “I Feel Pretty” indeed.

I took my shoes off during the concert, put my bare feet in the grass and admired the sunset.

What could be more joyful than a summer birthday? Not much. Swimming, biking, pickleball, eating, listening to music, spending time with my family, and watching the sun set. It doesn’t get any better than that. I do hope everyone loves the season in which they were born as much as I do.

Thank goodness, (and God willing) I can count on another perfect day in exactly one year. It was perfect JOY.

Many thanks to my husband, John, and my “birthday twin”, daughter Christine, for making this day so special.
